Taken starts off relatively slow as it presents the back-story and nabs us up to speed on how we ended up where we are.

The lighting noticeably switches from darker when Mills is unaccompanied or thinking about his relationship with his daughter, to lighter when he is around her. The musical score is similar in this way, transforming from a dim and somber arrangement to much lighter and unequivocal when dealing with Kim.
